BIO
Leslie and Johnny met while playing in the legendary pop rock band, The Pursuit of Happiness (“I’m an Adult Now”/Chrysalis Records). They recorded two albums with TPOH in Woodstock, NY (both produced by Todd Rundgren), Love Junk achieved Platinum status and One-Sided Story achieved Gold status.
Leslie and Johnny left TPOH and formed their band Universal Honey. During this time Sinclair and Stanwyck started a song writing partnership that has spanned across three decades, 100+ tracks and hundreds of gigs across North America. Sinclair and Stanwyck have put out an astonishing 10 albums, all
as independent artists. USA Today music writer, Ken Barnes, said the UH album “Vicious Circles” contains “Straight forward melodic delights that have been in sadly short supply so far this century.”
Leslie and Johnny have had more than 15 singles receiving airplay, and more than 50 song placements in film and TV scores and their band Universal Honey won a CASBY award as Best New Group. Professionally, they have shared the stage on major U.S. and European tours with the likes of the Goo
Goo Dolls, Duran Duran, The Eurythmics, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Tea Party, Our Lady Peace, 54:40, Tragically Hip, The Replacements, Belinda Carlisle, and many more.
Several of their songs during this time were used in the Rosanna Arquette documentary “Searching for Debra Winger” (Selma Hayek, Melanie Griffith, Jane Fonda, Sharon Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow), which premiered at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and is in regular rotation on cable channels worldwide.
They also recorded and released a Christmas Album with 11 original tunes (with guest appearances from Ron Sexsmith, Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), Tyler Stewart (Barenaked Ladies) and more) which still receives holiday airplay in the US, Canada, and Europe. Rock ’n Roll Hall of Famer Ronnie Spector covered “Best Christmas Ever” for her 2010 holiday record.
Their song “Just Before Mary Goes,” resonates even today, thanks to an appearance on the Girls Go Power Pop (2020) compilation on Ace Records UK and airplay on the BBC.
Leslie was chosen to contribute a track to “Women & Song: Volume 10” (Warner Bros.), which along with their 7 other albums was produced and recorded in their studio. Leslie also lent her voice to the movie-score of “The Stone Angel”. The score won a Genie Award for Best Music Score.
After moving to Saskatoon, in 2015, they formed the roots rock band Tucker Lane, which was nominated in 2018 and 2021 as Best Group at the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards (SCMA).
Leslie and Johnny continue to create and perform music wherever they get the chance and look forward to seeing you at one of their shows.
